MOST EMBARASSING MOMENT: Learning to drive and crashing into a parked car..
WHAT DO YOU EAT FOR BREAKFAST? Cereal and fruit; melon, grapes, apples, oranges, pineapple, banana, kiwi, (basically any fruit that’s in season) from Fowlers in Hartford (awesome place..check it out!)
GUILTY PLEASURES? Chocolate, Yankee Candles, grooming my horse, sitting on my reclining couch with Charlie the incredible purring cat watching HGTV, taking walks in Wadsworth State Park with my sweetie Terry and our dog Caleb!
FIRST JOB? Getting up at 3am on Sunday mornings to work at a little radio station in Franklin, New Hampshire. I worked there in the summer between my junior and senior years of high school, and they didn’t pay me until I had to quit to go back to school! (What they don’t know is they didn’t have to pay me at all, I thought it was pretty cool!)

Here's my dog Spike, who has passed away.. but will never be forgotten..if you've lost a pet and feel like no one knows what you're going through, take a look at this website, it helped my husband and I when we lost our "Rainbow Bridge Baby": http://petloss.com/ Spike "flying"
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown...

A Dog's Purpose
Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle.
I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn't do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia* procedure for the old dog in their home. As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.
The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.
The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, 'I know why.'
Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation.
He said, 'People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life - - like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?' The six-year old continued, 'Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long. '
Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:
*When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
*Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joy-ride.
*Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
*Take naps.
*Stretch before rising.
*Run, romp, and play daily.
*Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
*Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
*On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
*On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
*When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
*Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
*Be loyal.
*Never pretend to be something you're not.
*If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
*When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.
ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY!

The Great Debates?
Wednesday 10-08-2008 4:23pm ET

The second Presidential debate was last night, and just like the first, and also the Vice Presidential debate, my husband and I both agreed that it seems like they don't really answer the questions! Is it just me??!!!
*****start poll***** Poll: Do you think they answered the questions? *****end poll***** Comments? CLICKHERE
Hi Wendy,
I watched the Debate with my 12 yr. old daughter (she had to watch for extra credit at school) She even picked up on their not answering the questions. It's like they don't want to commit to a solid answer, they dance around it. So it definately was not only you and your hubby who thought that.

It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!!!
Thursday 10-02-2008 1:32pm ET
A Massachusetts’ man thinks he may have the biggest pumpkin this year. Steve Connelly says his mammoth squash weighs about 1,800 pounds. To grow it so big, he used North American Kelp, cow manure, maple leaf compost, seaweed fertilizer and Neptune's Harvest fish fertilizer. The big pumpkin will be harvested October 10th and weighed October 11th at Frerich's Farm in Warren, Massachusetts. There will be about 55 entrants at the weigh-in. Guinness World Records will be there too, to verify if his pumpkin has set a new record.

The horror I felt when I read this story, from the news section of our website:
80 dogs were shot and killed by two Pennsylvania kennel owners and they did it legally.
State officials say the two men, Elmer and Ammon Zimmerman, ran two separate kennels. And when state dog wardens ordered veterinary exams on dozens of their animals, they killed nearly every dog they had. At least 70 small breed dogs were found on a compost pile on Elmer Zimmerman's property. He received a poor inspection report July 24th. Ammon Zimmerman told a reporter his decision to destroy his dogs was quote "none of your business." In Pennsylvania, it's legal for dog owners to put the pet down by shooting it. The dog-law bureau's special deputy secretary Jessie Smith says "it's horrible, but it's legal."
Shame on the state of Pennsylvania to allow this! I'm sure these "kennels" were two of those "puppy mills" that we always hear about. Please be careful when you buy a puppy. Educate yourself on where your new best friend is coming from, and remember, you can always adopt. There are millions of animals that need homes. Both of my Shibas and my cat were adopted. They are perfect in every way, and I love them dearly. To think they may have come from one of those God awful puppy mills breaks my heart. I will make it up to them, believe me! I'm sick of hearing stories like the one above, and I hope someday people will stop being so cruel. Sorry for ranting and raving, but I just couldn't believe my eyes when I read that story. -Wendy

Wendy, as far as those dogs being shot, if they did not want them they should have given them away to good homes where people would love them for the rest of their lives. We had to put one of our dogs to sleep a few years ago because of a severe back problem. It was the hardest thing we had to do; it was like losing your best friend. His name was Dusty. The government should step in and punish these men. They should do time or be given a hefty fine, and be banned from ever raising animals for the rest of their lives. Ronald, Vietnam Veteran. I was raised on a farm, and that was the way you put an animal down, when they were sick or badly injuried. But I didn't know you could "just shoot that many for no reason but to get rid of them???
Terrible. An animal lover would never do that! Char Does Pennsylvania allow us to dispose of the men in the same way????! They should live in a 5X5 area, fed maybe twice a day, and cleaned up after once a week -- see how they like it! I also always adopt my pets and the are as valuable to me as any pedigree would ever be. -Bonnie
Wendy - I just wanted to throw up when I read this story. My Sable had hot tar put on her butt and was turned loose in Dutch Point housing project at 4 wks old because she was deemed "too gentle to fight". The tar was to mark her as non agressive. You had told me about getting Barbie before you announced it on the air. Isn't it amazing what some "people" can do to someone you & I now cherish so much ? Puppy mills should all be raided, remove the animals, and burn them to the ground. There is no jail sentence long enough. Becki
Hi Wendy, Just read the article on your page about the kennel owners shooting the dogs. That is terrible and heartless. I adopted a dog from the Little Guild of St. Francis last August 31...she is the best dog any one could ever want. No one can believe that she wasn't raised by us and that she has only been with us a short time. I get sick when I hear about the puppy mills and I wish that they would shut them all down. I agree with you...adopt a dog....we are thinking about adopting another one for company for the one that we have right now. - Iris
I think that's so disgusting. I know what I'd like to do to those guys. And they should lose their kennel licenses. Shame on Pennsylvania for letting them do that. They need to change that law. Linda

It's hard to believe these adorable puppies could have come from here:

Or here:

But unfortunately, it's very possible..
These were two of the "nicer" pictures I found from a Google Images search of puppy mills, some were so horrible I felt I couldn't post them on my page.
LEARNMORE about puppy mills (WARNING! Graphic and heartbreaking stories)
********************************************************************************** With all of the cruel things that people do to dogs, these two stories just amaze me..
(Phoenix AP) A German shepherd saved his owner's life by dialing 911 when he began to have a seizure. Joe Stalnaker says he adopted the dog, Buddy, when he was 8 weeks old and trained him to get the phone if he began to have seizure symptoms. Stalnaker says he also trained the dog to press programmed buttons until a 911 operator is on the line. Buddy, who is now 18 months old, can be heard whimpering on a recording of the 911 call. Emergency responders arrived two minutes later. Stalnaker was hospitalized for two days following the seizure but has recovered. He says Buddy is his best friend. Stalnaker says his seizures are the result of injuries he received during military service.

(From CNN) -- A dog sheltered a newborn baby abandoned by its 14-year-old mother in a field in rural Argentina until the boy was rescued, a doctor said Friday. A resident of a rural area outside La Plata called police late Wednesday night to say that he had heard the baby crying in a field behind his house. The man went outside and found the infant lying beside his dog and her six newborn puppies, said Daniel Salcedo, chief of police of the Province of Buenos Aires. The temperature was a chilly 37 degrees, Salcedo said. The dog had apparently carried the baby 50 meters from where his mother had abandoned him to where the puppies were huddled, police said. "She took it like a puppy and rescued it," Salcedo said. "The doctors told us if she hadn't done this, he would have died. "The dog is a hero to us."
